Violinist KJ McDonald is currently pursuing a B.M. under the guidance of Itzhak Perlman and Catherine Cho. KJ is a proud recipient of a Kovner Fellowship at The Juilliard School. A Perlman Music Program student since age 14, KJ also participated in the PMP Chamber Workshop this year.  In addition to the classical composers, KJ thrives in a wide range of eclectic genres including Babbitt, Ellington, Skrillex, Jacob Collier, and The Beatles, just to name a few. 

KJ is a very active chamber musician. His Azure Quartet was selected the Juilliard School Honors Quartet for school year 2017-18, under the instruction of Joseph Lin, of the Juilliard Quartet, and Natasha Brofsky. Past chamber coaches include many renowned artists such as Merry Peckham, Donald Weilerstein, Joel Krosnick, Laurie Smukler, Samuel Rhodes, Matti Raekallio, Ida Levin and Richard Naill.

With Jeffrey Milarsky’s Axiom Ensemble, he has worked with composers Steve Reich, John Adams, and Kaija Saariaho, et al. KJ frequently collaborates and premier works with award winning Juilliard composer classmates.

A native Californian, KJ enjoys surfing, biking, hiking, and gaming with friends.  Awarded the Huntington Beach Good Samaritan Award for saving his father’s life during a surfing accident.
